1611 – शेक्सपीयर के मैकबेथ नाटक का पहला ज्ञात मंचन हुआ।
1712 – जहांदर शाह दिल्ली की गद्दी पर बैठा।
1777 – न्यूयॉर्क ने एक स्वतंत्र राज्य के रूप में नया संविधान अपनाया।
1857 – पंजाब और पहाड़ी रियासतों में शुरू हुई आजादी की पहली लड़ाई का बीज कसौली में बोया गया था।
1888 – उत्तर प्रदेश के मुरादाबाद में ओले गिरने से 246 लोगों की मौत हुई।
1920 – अलबामा और मिसीसीपी में तूफान से 219 लोगों की मौत हुई।
1939 – जर्मनी में तानाशाह एडोल्फ हिटलर के 50वें जन्मदिन को राष्ट्रीय दिवस के रूप में मनाया गया।
1946 – संयुक्त राष्ट्र की पूर्ववर्ती संस्था लीग ऑफ़ नेशन्स भंग की गई।
1953 – कोरिया और संयुक्त राष्‍ट्र सेना के बीच बीमार युद्ध बंदियों का आदान प्रदान हुआ था।
1960 – एयर इंडिया के बेड़े में पहला जेट विमान बोइंग 707 शामिल हुआ।
1971 – भारत ने अपना पहला टेस्ट क्रिकेट मैच जीता।
1972 – अपोलो 16 अभियान छह घंटों तक संकट से जूझने के बाद चंद्रमा पर उतर गया। जॉन यंग और चार्ल्स ड्यूक की टीम चाँद पर उतरने वाली इतिहास की पाँचवीं टीम बनी।
1973 – कनाडा का एएमआईके ए2 पहला व्यावसायिक उपग्रह बना।
1978 – सोवियत वायुसेना ने दक्षिण कोरियाई यात्री विमान संख्या 902 पर गोलीबारी करके उसे गिरा दिया।
1999 – अमरीकी नगर डेनवर के कोलंबाइन स्कूल में हाई स्कूल के दो छात्रों ने अंधाधुँध गोलीबारी में 25 लोगों को मार दिया था।
1999 – जर्मन के पूर्व चांसलर हेल्मुट कोल अमेरिकी सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान 'द प्रेसिडेंशियल मेडल आफ़ फ़्रीडम' से सम्मानित।
2006 - भारत ने अपना पहला विदेशी सैन्य अड्डा ताजिकिस्तान में स्थापित करने की घोषणा की।
2008 -महाराष्ट्र भाजपा के नेता व राष्ट्रीय महासचिव गोपीनाथ मुण्डे ने अपने पद से इस्तीफ़ा दिया।
2008 - अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन पर नौ दिन बिताने के बाद पहले दक्षिण कोरियाई अंतरिक्ष यात्री यीसोयओन पृथ्वी पर सकुशल लौटे।
2011 - भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन (इसरो) के उपग्रह प्रक्षेपण यान 'पीएसएलवी' ने 20 अप्रॅल, 2011 बुधवार को तीन उपग्रहों को सफलतापूर्वक अंतरिक्ष में स्थापित कर दिया।
2012- अमेरिकी मीडिया ने भारत के अग्नि-5 मिसाइल के सफल परीक्षण पर कहा है कि इससे भारत को उसके पड़ोसी देश चीन के बराबर में खड़ा कर दिया है।

1895 - मलिक ग़ुलाम मोहम्मद - पाकिस्तान के तीसरे गवर्नर-जनरल थे।
1914 - गोपीनाथ मोहंती, उड़िया भाषा के प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार।
1920 - जुथिका रॉय, प्रसिद्ध भजन गायिका।
1924 - चन्द्रबली सिंह, एक लेखक होने के साथ-साथ उत्कृष्ठ कोटि के अनुवादक।

1912 – काउंट ड्रेकुला जैसे कालजयी किरदार की रचना करने वाले आयरिश उपन्यासकार ब्रैम स्टोकर का निधन।
1947 - गौरीशंकर हीराचंद ओझा, भारत के प्रसिद्ध इतिहासकार थे।
1960 - पन्नालाल घोष - भारत के प्रसिद्ध बाँसुरी वादक।
1970- शकील बदायूँनी, भारतीय गीतकार और शायर।
2004 - कोमल कोठारी - राजस्थान के ऐसे व्यक्ति, जो राजस्थानी लोक गीतों व कथाओं आदि के संकलन एवं शोध हेतु समर्पित थे।
